For this month’s podcast recommendation, we suggest an episode entitled Enhance Critical Thinking Skills with the Six Thinking Hats Activity from the Lecture Breakers podcast featuring host Dr. Barbi Honeycutt. She is a teaching and learning consultant, instructional coach, author, and speaker. From the Lecture Breakers podcast website, “The Lecture Breakers podcast is the place where educators share innovative teaching strategies to help you break up your lecture, energize your classroom, increase student engagement, and improve learning.”

The episode we suggest for this month is focused on using the 6 Thinking Hats in the classroom in a variety of ways. If you have not heard of the 6 Thinking Hats before, you can check out the book explaining the concept written by Edward de Bono or watch this short YouTube video that summarizes the concept.

In the podcast episode, Dr. Honeycutt lists 10 ways that you can use the 6 Thinking Hats in learning activities. She provides ideas such as having students all think about a case study using the same thinking hat or asking small groups of students to analyze a case with a particular thinking hat and sharing their perspective with groups that may have been analyzing the case from a different perspective. The possibilities of ways to incorporate the 6 Thinking Hats are endless, but this podcast can help you in getting started because it provides a several ideas.
