For this month’s podcast recommendation, we suggest an episode from The Daily, a podcast created by The New York Times. The Daily typically covers one major news story for the day, so it isn’t too surprising that ChatGPT is one major news story that has caught the attention of this more general media outlet. ChatGPT has proven to be a major disruptor in many sectors, but certainly in higher education.

The episode is titled, “Suspicion, Cheating and Bans: A.I. Hits America’s Schools.” The episode highlights perspectives of the use of ChatGPT from those in education through soundbites of interviews. The perspectives shared are specifically from one history professor and several college students. The instructor discusses how he’s found instances of students using AI for their assignments and the trust that he felt was broken by that use. On the other hand, students share ways they’ve used it to enhance their learning and also how they also used ChatGPT to fully write some of their assignments.

To get a sense of what others in higher education, including students, are feeling about ChatGPT, we suggest you check out this episode!
